What is LVR training?

LVR training teaches you how to rescue someone who is in contact with live low voltage electrical equipment, based on the nationally recognised unit UETDRRF004 Perform Rescue from a Live LV Panel. You’ll learn to assess the hazards, isolate the supply where you can, use an LV rescue kit to remove the casualty without becoming a second victim, and start CPR if they aren’t breathing normally. The unit covers live LV panels and apparatus, not overhead lines or underground cables.

UETDRRF004 is delivered and certified by [Safety Corp RTO name and number to be confirmed]. International Paramedic College runs the practical sessions on that RTO’s behalf in Ballina, Lismore and Byron Bay. Your Statement of Attainment for this unit is issued by [Safety Corp RTO name and number to be confirmed], not by International Paramedic College.

Entry requirements

  • A current Statement of Attainment for HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation. This is a prerequisite unit, so you must hold it before you start UETDRRF004.
  • Applying this unit at work may require an electrical licence or registration, and state or territory licensing conditions may apply. Confirm these before you enrol.
  • Basic English language, literacy and numeracy skills to complete the online learning and knowledge questions.
  • Basic computer skills and internet access for the pre-course learning.
  • Photo ID to present at the practical session, and a valid USI (Unique Student Identifier).
  • The physical ability to perform the rescue, move a casualty to safety and perform CPR at floor level.

What you’ll learn in this low voltage rescue course

The course follows the three parts of the UETDRRF004 unit. You’ll learn how to:

  • Identify the hazards and risk controls for the work area before a rescue
  • Identify and label the electricity isolation point
  • Check rescue tools and emergency equipment, and keep them where you can reach them fast
  • Keep a safe approach distance and protect yourself, the casualty and bystanders
  • Isolate the panel where possible and use an LV rescue kit to remove the casualty from live apparatus
  • Move the casualty to a safe location and start CPR, including using an AED
  • Call emergency services and get the casualty to medical treatment
  • Secure the worksite and control entry until the authorities release it
  • Report the incident to the right people

Throughout, you’ll work to workplace procedures, WHS legislation, codes of practice and the Australian Standards that apply to LV rescue.

Course units

You’ll complete one unit, UETDRRF004 Perform Rescue from a Live LV Panel, through online pre-course learning and a face-to-face practical session. The unit is delivered and certified by [Safety Corp RTO name and number to be confirmed].

Online Learning and Practical Session

What is this unit?

This unit covers rescue procedures from live low voltage panels and apparatus. It does not cover overhead lines or underground cables. It is delivered and certified by [Safety Corp RTO name and number to be confirmed].

Why it matters

Electric shock from a live panel can stop a person’s heart, and a rescuer who rushes in can become a second casualty. A safe, practised rescue protects everyone.

What you’ll learn

You’ll learn to assess hazards, identify and label the isolation point, use LV rescue equipment to remove a casualty from live apparatus, start CPR and secure the site.

How you’ll be assessed

You’ll answer online knowledge questions, then demonstrate a simulated rescue from a live LV panel at a face-to-face practical session.

Practical benefit

Once you’re competent, you’ll be able to perform a low voltage rescue and meet LVR requirements set by many employers and sites.

Delivery & assessment

Delivery format

  • Online pre-course learning (1 to 2 hours): reading and knowledge questions completed before your session
  • Face-to-face practical session: hands-on rescue practice and assessment with a trainer
  • Sessions in Ballina, Lismore and Byron Bay

Assessment method

You’ll be assessed through online knowledge questions and a practical demonstration of a simulated rescue from a live LV panel, where you’ll show you can:

  • Apply WHS requirements and risk controls
  • Inspect and place rescue equipment
  • Identify and label the isolation point
  • Perform the rescue and remove the casualty following workplace procedures
  • Follow CPR procedures if required

All assessment tasks must be completed successfully to be deemed competent. Read our student information and policies before you book.

Career pathways

LVR is a safety requirement, not a job qualification. Employers and principal contractors often ask for it before you work on or near live low voltage equipment. It’s relevant to:

  • Electricians, electrical contractors and apprentices
  • Trade assistants and safety observers working alongside electricians
  • Solar and renewable energy installers
  • Maintenance personnel in manufacturing, mining and construction
  • WHS officers and occupational first aid officers on sites with LV equipment

Certification and validity

When you’re deemed competent, you’ll receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for UETDRRF004 Perform Rescue from a Live LV Panel. The unit is delivered and certified by [Safety Corp RTO name and number to be confirmed], and that RTO issues your Statement of Attainment.

Training.gov.au doesn’t set an expiry for UETDRRF004, but many employers and sites set their own LVR refresher period. Check your employer or site requirements. Your HLTAID009 CPR also needs to stay current, and the Australian Resuscitation Council recommends refreshing CPR every 12 months.

Who should take this course?

This LVR training suits anyone who works on or near live low voltage panels and equipment, including:

  • Licensed electricians and electrical contractors
  • Electrical apprentices
  • Trade assistants and safety observers
  • Solar, battery and renewables installers
  • Mining, construction and manufacturing maintenance crews
  • Anyone whose employer requires current LVR and CPR

FAQs

Have questions about LVR training? Below you’ll find answers about prerequisites, refreshers, certification and the UETDRRF004 unit.

What is LVR training?

LVR, or low voltage rescue, training teaches you how to safely rescue a person in contact with live low voltage electrical equipment and start CPR. The nationally recognised unit is UETDRRF004 Perform Rescue from a Live LV Panel.

Do I need HLTAID009 before LVR training?

Yes. HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation is a prerequisite for UETDRRF004, so you need a current Statement of Attainment before you start.

How often do I need to renew my LVR certificate?

Training.gov.au doesn’t set an expiry for UETDRRF004. Many employers and sites set their own refresher period, so check your employer or site requirements. Keep your HLTAID009 CPR current as well.

Who issues my LVR certificate?

UETDRRF004 is delivered and certified by [Safety Corp RTO name and number to be confirmed]. That RTO issues your Statement of Attainment for this unit, not International Paramedic College.

Is UETDRRF004 the same as UETTDRRF06?

Yes. Training.gov.au lists UETDRRF004 as replacing and equivalent to UETTDRRF06 Perform Rescue from a Live LV Panel, so it meets requirements that refer to the older code.
