Your name: JULIACompany/Organsiation: Marine Rescue Port DouglasCourse Location: OnlineRating: 4.5Review: This was a great Course and I learnt heaps from it. I needed to upgrade my First Aid skills as we will doing medivacs on the rescue vessels.I looked at a number of courses but being in far north Queensland there are not many courses available in my area. I originally was going to do the Certificate 2 in Health Care, but after talking to the staff at the College I found that I could do the Certificate 3 completely online. The price was also attractive, as it was considerably less than other Colleges. Many of the practical sessions are completed by video, which was good. The units are well written, very informative and easy to understand. I really enjoyed this course and learnt a great deal.
Response from the owner: Hi Julia. Glad you enjoyed the Cert III in Basic Health Care, and thanks for sharing your experience with others. Our paramedical units are written by us with a pure paramedic and prehospital care focus. I am really proud of them. Thanks for taking the time to say such nice things. I truly appreciate it. Craig Nolan

Absolutely amazing course, couldn’t recommend it more...the Instructors made me feel a lot more confident about the possibility of having to carry out my training in an actual situation+ even in COVID times we were able to use the manikins that show blood flow to the head with led lights which makes the entire experience a lot more rewarding as we could get a realistic feel for What it takes to successfully carry out cpr !! :))

I found the First Aid training very interesting, engaging and informative. Fabricia gave a lot of encouragement and made us aware how important it is to step out of your comfort zone and just do what you know in the emergency situation, that can save someone's life. I feel like I know a lot more about what to do and how to deal with a life threatening emergency. Thank you Fabricia, enjoyed the day learning the course, very well delivered.
This was the best First Aid training I’ve ever done - engaging, informative, lots of different learning styles were catered for and our facilitator Lisa was very passionate, energetic and experienced. I can’t recommend it highly enough.

I’ve done the First Aid training course 3 times. Today, I’ve had the best one. Thanks Serge, don’t retire! Will want to do it with you next time! 🙌🏽🙏🏼
Amazing ways of teaching! Will come back for all my training!😁
Very good First Aid presentation that is lively, entertaining and gets the points across in a way that is easy to understand and take away with you, instilling confidence. Caring support staff and friendly operation in general.
Best First Aid and CPR Course ever, thanks Serge, very informative and entertaining.I highly recommend this training.Thankyou Serge, as a nurse of 35 years, I learnt heaps.
I thoroughly enjoyed my day working with you through the first aid course. My family were in stitches that night when I relayed some of your stories! They especially liked the one where your mate had to 'eat out of his ear and wipe his bum out of his eye!' And if you want to know more about that story you will just have to do the first aid course with Serge, the master cookie to find out what happened! Thanks for your time. It was really worthwhile and I have a renewed confidence should I be faced with helping someone in need. Kind regards Natasha Ball
The trainer was very knowledgeable in his content and willing to explain to each member of the class. I highly recommend this training facility
Great day today with Serge, this was my third first aid training course (with different providers) and by far and away the best. It was engaging, interesting, well paced and wonderfully delivered by Serge who's wealth of knowledge and experience is always evident. With a little humour in the mix it's an easy 10 from me. Thank you for an excellent day!
High praise for Serge, he kept us entertained with stories from his two decades of experience as a regional paramedic while teaching us good effective ways to keep someone going until the professionals get there. I feel confident that I not only know what to do in an emergency to keep myself safe and the patient calm, but how to also help the paramedics take over when they arrive.
The best first aid training I have ever attended, and I have attended many.
Definitely the provider to choose if looking to do a first aid course.
If i was a Tasmanian it would be three thumbs!!!! it was up totally engaging and interesting the best 1st aid course i have ever done , Well worth the every cent < and a top bloke too .

Who should study this course paramedicine diploma course? Online and practical.

This qualification was formerly known as a paramedic diploma called the Diploma of Paramedical Science and reflects pre-hospital and out-of-hospital workers employed to provide patient assessment, healthcare, and transport services. These workers possess clinical skills and theoretical knowledge and provide clinical assessment and pre-hospital and out-of-hospital interventions to patients in an emergency, including providing advanced skills in life support. This qualification applies to various roles within the health care and patient transport system around Australia. Developed in consultation with industry to meet a growing demand for discipline specialists from the vocational sector, and can provide a pathway for qualified paramedics to pursue a bachelor of Paramedic Science at University.

The Diploma of Emergency Health Care does not meet the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) standards for national registration as a paramedic within state-based ambulance services. To achieve this, you must enrol in a university and complete a three-year degree, a requirement consistent across all Australian providers. If you are looking to go into a state-based ambulance service straight away, then the university pathway would probably be best for you.

Maybe the degree option is not for you at this stage. If you’re considering a career in paramedicine and pre-hospital care but are hesitant to commit to a university degree for any reason just yet, this diploma offers an ideal introduction and employment opportunities in the private pre-hospital care sector. It’s particularly well-suited for mature students contemplating a career change and wanting to explore the field before making a full commitment.

Holders of this diploma often pursue opportunities in the private sector, including roles such as:

Medical Emergency Services Officer (MESO, ESO, Medic, or EMT) within the mining sector.

Various positions in civil construction and major infrastructure projects.

Non-emergency patient transport (NEPT) services or as an ambulance attendant.

Event medical services, providing support at major local events across Australia, including music festivals, car races, sports events, and other large gatherings.

The offshore sector, particularly in the mining and gas industries. FIFO

Offshore and shipping and yachting on large vessels

This qualification opens various vocational paths where a full degree is not required, but where practical skills and foundational knowledge are highly valued.

The one constant in emergency medicine is change

“Learning to be a medic at this level is not about learning how to use a specific piece of equipment. Equipment constantly changes and evolves, even between worksites. It is learning to apply a skill set or a template over the job and work your way through the routine you have learnt. It sounds funny, but learning to be a medic is learning a series of routines because all jobs have the common elements that need to be dealt with. If you get frustrated by change, then this is not a career for you, as evidence-based practice and new equipment drives changes in emergency medicine. We will develop a base of knowledge for you by completing the 17 units, then show you a systematic approach to patient management that incorporates a change mentality.”Craig Nolan.

Practical Skills Training

The HLT51020 Diploma of Emergency Health Care includes160hrs of clinical placement which we can help for you organise where you live with a local medical service, or you may already have options to organise yourself at your workplace. International Paramedic College Australia can run practical workshops located in the capital cities and selected regional locations around Australia.

Substantial discounts are offered on our diploma course when you can come to us for your 4-day practical workshop in Ballina NSW. It is just near Byron Bay, and we have an Airport with several direct flights every day. The savings in course fees allow you to come to us and still save money. The Practical Course duration is shortened by attendance at practical webinars and zoom sessions designed to have you primed for your practical work. (we used to call them Paramedic Primers in Ambulance Service NSW)

Why a 4 Day Face-to-Face Practical

We run our practical courses over a shorter time frame because we do a paramedical course primer before your attendance. We used to do this in Ambulance NSW to prepare trainees to “Hit the ground running” when they attend the practical courses. It was called a paramedic primer in those days. We also use a small group team format.

Learning to use various pieces of equipment is not difficult. Equipment continually changes, so learning when to use certain equipment is more important. (I have lost track of how many variations in leg splints and monitors etc I have seen over 40 years). The kit constantly changes, learning how to interpret it is what is essential. You can read more about our philosophy of paramedic training here.

We give you a lot of pre course work to complete on protocols procedures and pharmacology (different drugs that medics may administer) so you know them before you arrive at “face to face” training. We run a series of online webinars and live Q&A sessions with experienced clinical paramedics free of change before your attendance at practical training. Paramedical training is about learning a series of routines, like a template you can layer over any situation to provide you with a systematic approach to any patient management situation. Once you learn this approach, it is simple to apply it in any emergency call.

Our live interactive webinars cover the important aspects of developing the routines and equipment in your skills manual textbook

Skills Stations/Equipment

Patient Assessment

Trauma Cases

Medical Cases

Environmental Cases

Pharmacology relevant to your scope of practice

Clinical placement follows your practical training and allows students to receive hands-on training, skill development, practice and interact with instructors and peers in person. Overall, this program offers a well-rounded approach to paramedical, pre-hospital training, combining both a strong theoretical and practical components.

 Physical Requirements

If you suffer an allergy to latex products, please advise us.

Practical activities involve training scenarios conducted at floor level and contact with other students/instructors. Please wear suitable clothing.

CPR, as an example, is a rigorous physical activity requiring you to compress the chest of a manikin downwards about a third of the chest depth continuously at 100 to 120 times a minute for a continuous period of 2 minutes. First aid and CPR type courses require you to perform 2 minutes of CPR on an adult manikin on the floor and two minutes of CPR on an infant on a firm surface. If you are doing a childcare type first aid course, you will be required to do an additional 2 minutes of CPR on a child manikin.  This requires a level of endurance, strength, and fitness appropriate to this task. If you have current physical injuries, medical problems or limitations, please discuss this with your trainer. You must don’t injure yourself or exacerbate an existing condition in training.

Other units of study may involve driving or moving patients, depending on the particular requirements of the unit. Please contact us before enrolment if you would like to discuss individual units.

Learner Support

International Paramedic College is aware of the need to identify the individual support needs of learners and to provide access to educational and wellbeing support services to enable them to meet the requirements of the training product in which they are enrolled. Learner support includes any educational and support services that a learner may need to assist them in their training.

We will provide wellbeing support in the form of services and resources to assist with learners’ physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing. This may be provided through one-on-one support by a designated staff member or through referral to appropriate external services where the individual’s needs are out with our professional abilities and expertise.

We need to identify any particular requirements such as literacy, numeracy, English language or physical capabilities that learners would have to complete each course, and develop strategies to make support available where gaps are identified.

You will be asked at course registration to identify any support need you may need. This will be flagged to your trainer/assessor so they are aware and can provide appropriate support.

You should contact us to discuss any particular support requirements you may have before enrolment, and to understand the physical requirements of CPR training as an example.

Language literacy and numeracy (LLN) assessment tool information

An 'ACSF Assessment Task/Tool' or 'LLN Assessment Task/Tool' is a diagnostic assessment tool used to determine an individual's language, literacy, and numeracy (LLN) skill levels.

The tasks typically consist of various reading, writing, maths and oral communication questions designed to be relevant to workplace tasks.

The idea is that the tools will help gauge a person's current LLN skill levels and identify whether they have the required LLN skills to effectively interact with information and complete tasks that would be commonplace in a certain job, and if not, where the areas of required support are.

While IPC is not involved in VET Loans, there are assessment tools and tasks provided that some students may like to use to assess LLN needs Information is available here

They can be accessed here at the Australian Government Department of Employment and Workplace Relations
